Debian Sid and Intel IPW3945 hell

leave a comment »

The solution for all the problems related with the appropiate loading of ipw3945 module in Debian Sid is the creation of the file /etc/networking/if-pre-up.d/ipw3945 with the following content:

#!/bin/bash
grep ipw3945 /proc/modules > /dev/null || /sbin/modprobe ipw3945
/usr/local/sbin/ipw3945d –isrunning || (/usr/local/sbin/ipw3945d && sleep 2)

In addition to this is necessary to prevent the automatic loading of the module creating the file /etc/hotplug/blacklist.d/ipw3945 with the following content:

ipw3945

Not the intel procedure, neither the traditional /etc/modules mechanisms was enough to resolve this issue.
